In 1862 uncle William Hewson wrote will leaving William the Corn Mill in Market Lane in Barton now in his occupation, as well as making William a residuary legatee - in 1872 he added a codicil leaving William a house in Holydyke in Barton - uncle William died in 1873.

In return of owners of land in England and Wales, 1873, we find Hewson, William, jun., Barton on Humber, owning 1 2 -, at estimated rental of 10 13.

In 1878 Uncle William's widow Sarah made Wm and his brothers residuary legatees in equal shares. In 1880 brother John wrote will making his wife, George and Elam trustees, giving siblings William, George, Elam, Joseph, Elizabeth and Jemima equal shares in his estate.

Lincoln Rutland Stamford Mercury1 Mar 1872 " On Saturday last the annual election of members for the Barton Local Board took place. There were 23 candidates nominated for the eight vacancies....[elected were] Mr. Wm. Hewson, miller, 446....These gentlemen are in favour of sanitary measures and voted in favour of a thorough system of drainage at a recent meeting of the Board."

Lincoln Rutland Stamford Mercury 17 Jan 1873 "One of the sails of Mr. W. Hewson's mill fell with a tremendous crash on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately no damage was done except to the roof of the warehouse adjoining the mill."

Naylors are likely "related" – William’s mother Mary Foster had a brother Charles Foster who married a Rebecca Naylor - all from Scotter. After Sophia died in 1891, William remarried in 1893 - to M.A. Naylor, who was "visiting" in 1891. Mary Ada Naylor was 26 years old, a spinster, living at Harcourt St, Newark, at time of marriage.
