Notes for Rev. Clement R. Read:
A Clement Reade married Amy Malone in Brunswick Co., VA Nov. 17, 1796.
Clement Read was a prominent Presbyterian minister in Mecklenburg Co., VA. See "Old Churches and Families of Virginia" by Foote. He was first ordained by Methodists. He accused Hampden-Sydney of making everyone Presbyterian. After he became popular, the Prebyterians ordained him.
Was the eldest son of col. Isaac Read and Sarah Embra and was six when his father died. His mother married again and his upbringing was supervised by his stepfather Maj. Tom Scott . He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and married at 17 Clarissa Jane Edmunds. "Parson" Read, as he was always called, and his wife lived and died at their plantation, Greenwood, on the Staunton River in Charlotte county. They had 13 children between the years 1790 and 1815. "He died at Ward's Neck on Staunton River." History of Virginia.
George Whitfield is the name of another prominent minister, who may be the namesake of Rev. Clement Read's son.
