Papers of Harriet V. Miller. "Word Pictures of Longwood," by Harriet V. Miller, PrivatePrinting, 1941: Nathaneil was one of the founders of the Philanthropic Society, Hampden-Sidney College; Capt. in War of 1812; trustee of Hampden-Sidney College form 25 Sept. 1827 until his death; was first in partnership with his father, Venable and Venable; the firm bought tobacco, shipping it by roller and wagon and flatboat. Firm also dealt in flour mills, saw mills,tanneries, land speculation, which was in financial trouble in the 1837-40 time period. See portrait copy in Miller/Groffalbum. "History of Pr.
