bullet  Research Notes:

Hello Kevin,
Came onto your site whilst searching Lincolnshire WOW what a site, the best I have seen. In your site you have George Searby ( 11685 ) and Sarah Parker ( 11686 ) who married in Wrawby in 1805 they had three sons Robert b. 1806 in Kingerby, Charles Neville b. 1808 in Grimsby and George Neville b. 1810 in Doncaster, Yorkshire. I believe that Robert is my Great Grandfather, my problem is that the person whom I know to be my Great Grandfather was convicted at the York Court on 24 October 1827 for Housebreaking and was sentenced to 7 years Transportation to Van Diemens Land ( Tasmania Australia ) in the name Robert Walker. After serving his sentence he was given permission to mary, he married Elizabeth Hopper in the name Robert Walker, there were 4 children to this marriage the first George Searby Walker the second Sarah Ann Searby Walker the same christian names as the parents of Robert Searby born 1806 the other two children also had the name Searby as a christian name. Elizabeth Hopper died in 1861 and Robert Walker married my Great Grandmother Louisa Emily Gould in 1862, the marriage certificate gives his name as Robert Searby Walker, there were 12 children to this marriage, the first 7 were all registered in the name Walker with all having the name Searby as a Christian name, the next 5 children were all registered in the name Searby with no reference to the name Walker. Robert died in 1885 and was buried in the name Robert Searby. I have his full convict record which gives his native place as Kingerby Linclonshire. Robert would have had to marry in the name Walker as that was the name on his certificate of Permission to Marry, having been a convict. I apologise for such a lengthy message but I feel it is necessary to explain my Robert in the hope that you may have information to help solve the problem of his true name. The records of his court appearance have not been able to be found at this stage. If it turns out that my Robert is in fact the son of George Searby and Sarah Parker, I have every step he has taken since landing in Tasmania including all his descendents to which you are welcome if you require. If you are able to help in any way it will be greatly appreciated.
Lionel Benson
