• Occupation: Railway As A Railwayman (Porter/Head Porter), 1900/1921. He had been at Saughall Station when young, promoted to the village station at Pilley near Clay Cross. Then he went to the big Victoria Station in Sheffield, where he was head porter. He refused to allow his son Wilf to become a railwayman. As Head Proter, everyone in Shefiled got to know him and the tips he received were thrown down on the table for his Grandchildren, AUdrey and Ted. He was also a keen rambler and is said to be a founder member of the Sheffield Clarion Rambling Club in 1900. He always said that bad weather started in Penistone because of its' height. One day he was on a train from Penistone to Sheffield when it almost jumped the rails speeding down the descent. He got into trouble for hitting the driver. He loved the theatre.
